So today I decided to buy a record that I already own on an impulse. It was the Beatles/1967-1970 a.k.a. the Blue Album. I bought it because it was a different pressing than the one I already own (the one I already owned was an Apple original pressing, this was a mid-late 70’s Capitol pressing). Once I got it home I noticed there was writing on the labels of the records, this of course is not uncommon. One side read, “L.F.” whereas the other side read, “Leslie Forbes”. I typically like when people write on the labels because it shows history. After inspecting it a little more, I noticed that there was something inside the sleeve of the record jacket. My hopes were through the roof wondering what it could be. I’ve had everything from newspaper clippings to rolling papers stuck inside albums. When I pulled it out I realized that it was a little note with Santa on it. Obviously this was a Christmas present. On the other side it read, “To Leslie. From Paul Ringo John and George”. Apparently Leslie received this record for Christmas and felt the note was sentimental. I wonder how old she was when she got it? I wonder why she kept it with the record? I wonder why she gave the record away? I wonder if she’d be happy to know that the record AND the note are going to a good home…
Probably one of my favorite intros .
I believe this was the first song that really HIT Iggy Pop when he was around my age or younger.
